LPFA FOREST GRANT PROGRAM
| Grant Application|What are Forest Care Grants?
Millions of people enjoy Los Padres National Forest annually, yet many of our favorite trails, watersheds, forest structures and other resources are in need of our help. In addition, the LPFA strongly supports environmental education programs that help teach about forest resources and how to protect them.By awarding much-need grants to local organizations, the Forest Care Program helps provide additional resources to protect our forest and its resources.
What types of projects will the LPFA consider?
- Habitat restoration projects.
- Trail rehabilitation projects which will result in visible and substantial ease of access, improved safety, and/or avoidance of environmental damage.
- Constituency building - including volunteer recruitment and support.
- Improvements to forest structures, including historic buildings, towers and other cultural resources.
- Environmental education programs designed to promote care and protection of forest resources.
Funding and Accountability
The LPFA will fund forest care projects throughout the year and are awarded quarterly. Award amounts typically fall between $200 and $600, with a maximum of $600 for any one grant.Projects should be beyond the financial resources of the sponsoring organization. Acceptable projects should be completed within a reasonable amount of time after the grant is awarded, typically within a year. The grantee will conclude the project with a final report which includes a description of the work completed and an accounting of how the money was spent.
Publicity
Recipients of a LPFA Forest Care Grant are expected to announce the project to local news media, as well as their local newsletter and web site to the maximum extent possible. This publicity will help expand the LPFA’s support to many more organizations each year as well as help us increase the size of our grants.Application Procedures
